One local lawmaker is looking to better protect children from the sun.
State Senator Michael Gianaris wants to alter an Education Department policy that currently states students cannot apply sunscreen at school, unless they have a doctors note.
He thinks a note from a parent should suffice.
The proposal comes after two young girls in Washington State were badly burned on a school field trip, after being told not to apply sunscreen.
State Education Department officials are said to be reviewing the New York Policy.
