There are so many questions in this case that I feel will NEVER be answered. Why did Pedro Hernandez come forward now? Is it because the 33rd anniversary was upon us? Does his mental state make his story unreliable? As of now, I would say investigators need something more in this case; a detail only the Patz family or Pedro Hernandez would know...something...anything.

The man who confessed to killing Etan Patz 33 years ago is awaiting arraignment from a hospital bed. 51-year-old Pedro Hernandez is being held for psychiatric evaluation at Bellevue Hospital after making suicidal statements.

Hernandez faces second-degree murder charges after admitting he strangled the six-year-old boy in 1979 in the basement of a bodega and disposed of the body in the garbage on the street. During a three-hour confession to police, the New Jersey resident gave no motive for the killing.

Crime scene investigators returned today to the former SoHo bodega where the killing took place. One former prosecutor questioned how the district attorney will be able to gather physical or scientific evidence to support the confession. What do you say?

I still don't thing they have enough evidence and to me they are all grand standing. This suspects story is just to cut and dry.

Now he is talking suicide They are hallucinating with this arrest because look at what they just did with the FBI supposedly pertaining to this case.

They tore up all the concrete of a basement and in the end they found nothing. All they went by was a stain of blood.

I'm not sure if they brought in the dogs or not but the whole thing is just to suspect on everyone's part. The law enforcement comes off as being very unprofessional.

They have already ruined the life of the other suspect that they were so sure was the murder. In the end they never held a conference telling us that they were wrong about the suspect and how his life is completely ruined and should have apologized to us for jumping the gun without being much more careful about gathering up the evidence. This to me tarnish's both the FBI and the NYPD's reputations because of the way it was handled. Maybe if this outcome happened to one but not both agencies it would have been a different story.

If Mr. Hernandez killed Etan I have to wonder what other crimes he's committed in the past 3 decades. His movements from the last 33 years need to be backtracked & investigated for any correlation w other crimes nationwide; Which sounds like an F.B.I. responsibility.

I only wish the media lets the family rest and leaves them alone. To live with this nightmare for so many years and now hearing what happened to their child, the way he died and the way this man dispose of the body, has to be horrible for them. Let them be.

I was 9 years old when this happened and on the day he went missing, I was a block away at the factory my grandmother worked at on Lafayette. As I child I grew up in fear always thinking someone would hurt me or take me. Ever since, anytime I would hear Etan's name, the pain in my heart would return. I have 2 girls now and I am extremely over protective. Anytime I would hear Etan's. I hope to God he didn't suffer and that his parents can have some answers.

Don't forget about how that man confessed to killing Jon Benet Ramsey and it turned out to be a false confession. I don't see how this could rake place in a busy bodega. I think Jose Ramos is the real killer.

I think that this is a relief for all of us NYers who were here in 1979. I was about 11 yrs old.

I do not know if that guy really did it or not. It just seems so well put together when they started sniffing out that area again.

If it is, thank goodness. Then we ALL can get some closure AND future child murderers will know, that they too will be caught.

This is the 2nd confession of Etan Patz. A man, a known child molester in jail, confessed to raping the young child, suffocating him, and throwing his remains in a furnace. The police disregarded his confession. Now, conveniently on the anniversary of the disappearance, a man confesses and the case is closed. Sorry folks. I'm not drinking the Kool-Aid.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but isn't this just too coincidental that the crime is solved a day or so out from the date it took place? And doesn't Commissioner need something big to happen under his rule that would transport him to the front of the line for becoming the next mayor?

A confession after all these years is not enough. Corroborating or even circumstantial evidence is needed. There is always a fact about a crime that police do not release to the public, but only the perpetrator(s) would know about.

Although I do not understand the psychology behind false confessions, some people confess to crimes that they did not commit.

Let's hope the Manhattan DA doesn't lose another high profile case like DSK. Cy Vance has a lot of difficult work to do to make the case for Hernandez's guilt.

I just wonder what the odds are that this was the only horrific thing done to a child by Hernandez. In order to do something like this, someone has to have serious issues. After so many years, it really makes you wonder and hope that Hernandez has not harmed any other children or people.

While nothing can bring the child back justice must be pursued and in this case more information is needed. The NYPD messed up with DSK and recently paraded a wrongly accused man for groping women. Hopefully they have more information than they have released about the case.
