The New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation says the City's 911 service began directing ambulances back to the hospital on Wednesday.

The hospital is accepting transport for most types of emergency patients, including heart attacks and strokes.

Trauma care, labor and delivery remain closed.

Hospital employees said things are almost back to normal.

"I think we were incredibly frustrated for a while, but now, it's great because now, we have EMS coming in," said Regina Hammock, associate chairwoman of the emergency department at Coney Island Hospital. "I was actually here on the first day when it opened, and we were so happy to see EMS. We had food for them and everything, and we were clapping when the first ambulance rolled in. It was great."

The hospital's emergency department was severely damaged when the facility's basement and first floor flooded during the storm.

Repairs are ongoing at the hospital, which is expected to fully reopen on March 1.
