Police say the fatal stabbing of a 19-year-old student Thursday in Manhattan stemmed from a dispute between two girls.

Investigators say 19-year-old Theodore Beckles was involved in a fight outside of a building on West 56th Street in Hell's Kitchen, which houses both the High School for Environmental Studies and Independence High School.

The Department of Education tells NY1 that Beckles was arguing with a student from Environmental when he was stabbed.

He was taken to Weill-Cornell Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Beckles recently moved to the Bronx, where one neighbor said his death hits close to home.

"I have a son that is a little older than Teddy," she said. "Looking at this from a mother's point of view, it's really sad, really touching. "

Police say they are questioning witnesses but have made no arrests so far.
