The new Barclays Center in Brooklyn comes with its own multi-million dollar transit link that leads directly to the arena's doorstep and is scheduled to open to the public next week. NY1's Jeanine Ramirez filed the following report.

It's the third largest mass transit hub in the city. But a 100-year-old train station has a new name -- the Atlantic Avenue Barclays Center. And now a new exit will soon open to the public leading riders straight to the Barclays Center arena.

"When you get to the top of the stairs. you have this remarkable transparent view into the bowl. You can see the scoreboard and the building invites you in. When you pop out of the subway, you're standing right in front of the arena at its doorstep," said MaryAnne Gilmartin of Forest City Ratner Companies.

Arena developers paid $4 million for the next 20 years for the naming rights for the station, whose doorstep is a 30,000 square foot open space plaza lined with paving stones, benches and greenery.

"We love the plaza. We think it becomes in some ways the new clock, the grand central clock for many people in Brooklyn," Gilmartin said.

A green roof will change with the seasons. Underground, nine existing subway lines plus the LIRR are connected by new passageways in what's been a two year, $76 million construction project.

"When you dig a hole right in the middle of Atlantic Avenue and Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, you're in the heart of Brooklyn, the two busiest roads. And you're wedged between a subway line and the Long Island Rail Road so excavation here is particularly challenging," noted Bob Sanna of Forest City Ratner Companies.

With two more train lines nearby -- the G and C -- it's "Eleven Trains. One Destination", the Barclays Center's slogan as it teams up with the MTA to push for mass transit use.

"You're not going to find parking. The only easy, convenient, affordable way to get here is to leave the car at home, take the train," said MTA Spokesman Adam Lisberg.

The mass transit campaign also includes estimated travel times from around the city.

A new subway ad is going up showing, for example, it's supposedly a 15 minute ride from Union Square to the Barclays Center.
