Community Board Votes Against Lower East Side Greyhound Stop

Community Board 3 voted unanimously against Greyhound and Peter Pan's proposed bus stop on the Lower East Side Tuesday night.
The bus companies want to put a new stop near Seward Park for passengers going to and from Philadelphia but residents objected, saying too many buses already go through the neighborhood.
They're also concerned about possible health problems, especially since there's a playground nearby.
Greyhound said passengers won't have access to the park and they'll have crews on site to help.
But residents aren't buying it.
"Business owners don't want this," said small business owner Syd Butler. "And it just makes no sense at all. Greyhound and Peter Pan have not come up with any solutions on how to deal with safety, security, bathrooms."
"I think Chinatown has been plagued by illegal operators," said Christian DiPalermo of Greyhound/Peter Pan. "Here, Greyhound and Peter Pan are trying to do the right thing, going to DOT, going to the community, adjusting the plan to what the community's saying here and there where they can and absolutely putting forward a quality service to the Chinatown community."
The Department of Transportation will have the final say.
