The 22nd Annual Susan G. Komen Greater New York City Race For The Cure made its way through Central Park.

Participants walked or ran a 5k course through the park, starting at the American Museum of Natural History and ending at the Bandshell.

The race also included a special shortened course for the disabled, elderly and those undergoing cancer treatment.

"The importance of it for me is to feel healthy and to be around people that support me, particularly my partner," said one runner. "This has been a struggle for the last year, and it has been a wonderful one in terms of understanding how supportive other people can be for me."

"We were affected by it. A lot of people other personally affected by it. But we need everybody to help us support the fight against breast cancer," said another.

"I'm happy. Every time when I stand in back of them watching everybody run, it's just bringing tears to my eyes, to know that we have that many people that care about us," said an onlooker.

The event raises millions of dollars each year to support breast health services for uninsured and underinsured New Yorkers. For more information, visit KomenNYC.org.
