Veteran point guard Jason Kidd signed a three-year, $9 million deal with the New York Knicks on Thursday, according to multiple reports, but the team is now in danger of losing Jeremy Lin.

Kidd, 39, is second on the NBA's all-time list in assists and steals.

The 10-time all-star averaged just over six points and 5.5 assists last season with the Dallas Mavericks.

The Knicks hope Kidd could be a mentor to Lin, who reportedly agreed to an offer sheet from the Houston Rockets for four years worth more then $25 million.

The Knicks will have a chance to match the offer to the heavily marketable international phenomenon because Lin is a restricted free agent.
