The three Republican candidates looking to unseat Senator Kirsten Gillibrand squared off during a debate on NY1 Sunday night.

Congressman Bob Turner, Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos and attorney Wendy Long made their case to have their name on the ballot.

They each focused on the economy, trying to connect Gillibrand to what they call the failed policies of the Obama Administration – particularly when it comes to job growth and taxes.

"My approach is never to compromise on principle," said Long. "One approach I would have is that we can't raise taxes."

"I'm a businessman," said Turner. "I approach problems from a practical point of view. We need solutions, we don't need rhetoric."

"You cannot grow the economy and you cannot create jobs if you raise taxes," said Maragos.

The candidates also criticized President Obama and his positions on gay marriage and hydrofracking, as well as his recent change of immigration policy announced on Friday.

Each called that decision a political stunt and unconstitutional.

Turner won the Congressional seat vacated by Anthony Weiner following Weiner's texting scandal. Turner defeated David Weprin in a heavily Democratic district of Brooklyn and Queens.

Maragos, the Nassau County Comptroller, spent 35 years in private practice before being elected to public office.

Long is an attorney who once clerked for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

The primary is set for June 26.
