City firefighters had their hands full battling a fire early this morning inside a large building in Queens.

Crews were called to the building located at 220-03 Hempstead Avenue in Queens Village around 3:15 a.m.

Investigators say the fire started on the first floor and spread to the basement.

It eventually went to a second alarm.

Firefighters had a tough time getting inside to search the building since much of the lower levels were burned, triggering concern over the stability of the building.

There were residential units in the upper levels of the building, though no injuries have been reported.
