The Rangers are facing the Washington Capitals at Madison Square Garden in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

The top-seeded Blueshirts advanced to playoffs' second round Thursday night with a 2-1 win over Ottawa in Game 7 of their first round playoff series.

Seventh-seeded Washington advanced Wednesday night by knocking off the defending Stanley Cup champion Bruins in overtime of their Game 7.

This is the third playoff meeting in four years for the Rangers and Caps. Washington won the first two.

Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist on Friday was named a finalist for the Hart Trophy, which goes to the NHL's regular season Most Valuable Player. Lundqvist is up against Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Steve Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning for the honors.

The last Rangers player to win the Hart Trophy was Mark Messier in 1992.

The Knicks. meanwhile, are taking on Lebron James and the Heat in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals in Miami.

New York lost all three of its matchups with the Heat this season, but the team finished with its best winning percentage since 2001.

The Knicks say they are ready to face one of the best teams in the league.

"We feel confident, we feel good, you know, where we are as a team, where we stand right now, said star forward Carmelo Anthony. "Guys mentally feel good about this series, feel good about their approach to the games. We just want to go out and play ball right now."

Center Tyson Chandler, whose status for the game was uncertain due to flu-like symptoms, was in the starting line-up when it took the floor.

The last time the Knicks got out of the first round of the playoffs was in 2000.
