Three historic aircraft were removed from the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum by crane on Wednesday to make room for its newest addition, the prototype space shuttle Enterprise.

The aircraft are being taken by barge from the West Side museum to the Empire State Aerosciences Museum upstate.

The curator at the museum said deciding which aircraft to send away was not an easy decision.

"That was the most difficult thing, but first thing we had to do was look at the entire collection, airplanes that haves strong intrepid history airplanes the flew from Intrepid those we would never get rid of, those who served alongside Intrepid time frame wise or mission wise, those stayed."

The Enterprise is scheduled to arrive at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Monday. It will be brought to the Intrepid by barge in June.
