Store fronts all across the city turned into catwalks Friday for Fashion's Night Out.
Lines were around the corner for the event at Nicole Miller in SoHo.
The event is the brainchild of Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour. It's meant to unite designers and retailers for one special night to put some sparkle back in the eyes of shoppers -- and to get them off the streets and into the stores.
"We wanted it to be fashion for everybody and for all price points, all points of view," said Wintour.
"The vibe is fun. It's intense, it's creative energy. It's all these people coming together and showing their art. And, just living it up -- it's New York," said one shopper.
"Just the whole Fashion Night Out makes Fashion Week so accessible to, you know, the average folks like us who aren't going to make it into the tents. And you get to really feel it out here and everyone you know is out here running out in the street," said another.
The SoHo studio of designer Nicole Miller went from a fashion boutique to a club for one night only, with a DJ and plenty of drinks.
"The streets are just bustling. Everybody's bustling, there's a throng of people," said Miller.
NYC and Company, the city's tourism and marketing arm, reported that during last year's Fashion Night Out, 75 percent of shoppers not only bought something but visited some stores for the very first time.
Another market research found that foot traffic in stores jumped 50 percent as a result.
Over 100 cities in the U.S. and 16 countries around the world took part in Fashion's Night Out.
