Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance has officially reopened the 31-year-old case of the disappearance of Etan Patz.

The six-year-old boy vanished after leaving his family's SoHo loft in 1979 for his first solo trip to the school bus stop.

A civil court judge in 2004 determined Jose Ramos, the boyfriend of Etan's babysitter, was responsible for the boy's death.

Former Manhattan D.A. Robert Morgenthau long argued there was not enough evidence to bring criminal charges against Ramos.

Ramos is serving time in Pennsylvania for molesting two boys, and is up for parole in 2012.

Patz was the first missing child to appear on the side of a milk carton.
