The remains of Laura Garza, the Brooklyn resident who disappeared from a Manhattan nightclub last year, could be returned to Upstate New York as early as today.
State Police say her body will be brought to a forensics lab in Albany for an autopsy that might determine a cause of death.
The Pennsylvania prosecutor says Garza, 25, was apparently killed elsewhere before her body was dumped outside of Scranton.
She was seen on surveillance video in December of 2008 leaving the Marquee nightclub in Chelsea with registered sex offender Michael Mele. The Texas native was last seen shortly thereafter with Mele in Newburgh.
Mele, 24, is serving jail time on a parole violation. He has not cooperated with authorities in this case, but remains the focus of the investigation.
