Brooklyn Councilman Charles Barron and other community leaders say they will hold a news conference on Sunday to call on Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to recuse himself from the investigations into Governor David Paterson's activities.

Governor's Town Hall Meeting

At 11 a.m. Monday, Governor David Paterson will hold a town hall meeting on the state budget at Brooklyn Borough Hall. NY1 will have extensive coverage of the event.

The lawmakers, who plan to gather at City Hall at 3 p.m. Sunday, say they are outraged by how Cuomo and Lieutenant Governor Richard Ravitch held a meeting on Friday. One report claims the state budget was part of their discussion.

Barron said such a meeting comes too close to crossing the line in terms of conflicts of interest, as Cuomo is likely to run for governor, and that the attorney general should remove himself from the investigation of Paterson.

Meanwhile, a gubernatorial hopeful said it is time for Paterson to explain himself.

At an appearance at the Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade, former Republican Congressman Rick Lazio said New York has the most dysfunctional state government in the nation and that the state needs his leadership.

"Every day that goes by that [Paterson] does not fully explain what he said and when he said, it is another day that he loses political capital and makes it more difficult for him to be an effective governor," said Lazio. "At some point, he's got to make a decision, not just in terms of what's right for him, but in terms of what's right for the state."

In spite of the various investigations swirling around him, and polls showing sagging public support, the governor reaffirmed on Saturday that he is not stepping down.

One probe is into whether Paterson tried to influence a woman who accused one of his top aides of domestic abuse.

Another investigation centers around tickets the governor allegedly requested and received for last year's World Series.
