Staten Island boxer Marcus Browne's hopes for an Olympic medal were knocked out Monday as he lost his first fight in London.
Australia's Damien Hooper defeated Browne 13-11, eliminating the New Yorker from contention for a medal.
Browne will reportedly stay in London to cheer on America.
Browne's mother watched from her Stapleton restaurant, Mona's Cuisine. She said she could not sleep the night before, feeling the nerves only a mother can feel watching her son compete in the fight of his life.
Browne had to lose more than 10 pounds to fight in the light heavyweight class in London.
His mother says she will spend the next few months helping him gain that weight back when he returns home.
Meanwhile, Bronx native John Orozco and his teammates finished fifth in the men's gymnastics final.

The 19-year-old helped Team USA nab the first slot during qualifications Saturday, but failed to medal Monday.
China took home the gold.
Dozens of Orozco supporters flocked to the Westchester gym where he trained to cheer him on.
World Cup Gymnastics in Chappaqua, where Orozco had trained for nine years, hosted a viewing party for the competition.
The gym will host another viewing party Wednesday when Orozco gets another chance to go for gold in the individual competition.
