The New York Mets are bringing the "Banner Day" tradition back today, allowing fans to display their banners on the field before the game against the San Diego Padres.
Banner Day was first held at the Polo Grounds and later at Shea Stadium, last taking place in 1996.
The revival comes thanks in part to calls from fans and is part of the team's season-long 50th anniversary celebration.
Judges, including former Mets players Doc Gooden and Rusty Staub, will pick their three favorites, and the fans' favorite banner maker will get a trip to spring training next year.
