Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman testified at the Roger Clemens perjury trial Thursday that the former star pitcher asked him to hire trainer Brian McNamee.

Cashman told the jury that he visited Clemens in the clubhouse after he lasted just two innings in Game 3 of the 1999 ALCS in Boston.

He says Clemens told him that McNamee knew how to train him and push the right buttons.

The Yankees hired McNamee the following season.

Clemens is on trial for allegedly lying to Congress about not using steroids.

McNamee testified before Congress that he injected Clemens multiple times with steroids and human growth hormone.

He's expected to testify at the trial next week.
