Presidential daughter Chelsea Clinton married her longtime boyfriend in Rhinebeck, N.Y. Saturday evening.
Nearly 500 guests were expected to attend the marriage between the 30-year-old daughter of former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and investment banker Marc Mezvinsky at the Astor Courts estate.
The groom is the son of former Iowa Congressman Edward Mezvinsky and former Pennsylvania Congresswoman Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky.
The two became friends as teenagers and both went to Stanford University.
"We could not have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of their life together, and we are so happy to welcome Marc into our family," said the former president and secretary of state in a statement. "On behalf of the newlyweds, we want to give special thanks to the people of Rhinebeck for welcoming us and to everyone for their well-wishes on this special day."
Details about the reportedly lavish wedding have been tightly guarded.
Rumors say that the wedding would be an interfaith ceremony conducted by a rabbi and a reverend, as the bride is Methodist and the groom is Jewish.
Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and the Clintons arrived at the town Friday night. On Saturday, reporters flocked around the married Hollywood stars Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen.
"I can only imagine they feel like we did when our daughter got married last summer, and our second daughter is getting married this summer: joy, pure joy," said Danson. "It's the best thing in the world, especially when you love the man they're going to marry."
"And knowing my friend Bill for 30-something years, I can honestly tell you I'm sure he'll be crying his eyes out, knowing him," added Steenburgen.
The guests were said to not be allowed to carry phones or cameras, in order to keep the ceremony private.
Security at the celebration remained tight through early Sunday, including the shut down of air space above the wedding site.
The road to the party was also closed off hours before the main event.
On Friday, huge crowds greeted Bill and Hillary Clinton as they entered the Beekman Arms Inn in Rhinebeck.
"It's very exciting to see all of these people in our little town and seeing what's going on. I love the Clintons, always have. So it's really thrilling," said an onlooker.
"You see the trooper and the sheriffs have the area moving pretty freely, no problems. It's a professional operation going on here," said Rhinebeck Town Supervisor Tom Traudt. "And Rhinebeck is surviving and benefiting from all of this."
