NY1 VIDEO: Of all the bad days of the latest recession, Sept. 15, 2008 may be the worst. On this day four years ago, Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy and the Dow dropped more than 500 points, the worst trading day since the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001. NY1's Milanee Kapadia filed the following report on Sept. 15, 2008.

NY1 FOLLOW-UP: The Dow continued to drop for months after Sept. 2008, reaching an ultimate low in the spring of 2009. In economic terms, the recession was technically over years ago. The National Bureau of Economic Research, the organization that has historically determined when recessions start and end, declared that the Great Recession ended in June of 2009.
