NY1 VIDEO: As NY1 revisits its 20-year history, the station looks back at reporter Rebecca Spitz's August 4, 2003 coverage as the family of a West African man who was fatally shot by an NYPD officer in a Chelsea warehouse raid met with Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and announced a $100 million civil suit against the city and the department.
NY1 FOLLOW-UP In 2006, Ousmane Zongo's family accepted a $3 million settlement from the city. Officer Bryan Conroy was ultimately convicted of criminally negligent homicide in 2005 and sentenced to probation and community service. He was fired by the NYPD.
