NY1 VIDEO: Long before today's proposed large sugary drink ban, Mayor Michael Bloomberg championed the trans fats ban. NY1's Amanda Farinacci filed this report on July 1, 2007, when New York became the first major city to ban its restaurants from using more than one half-gram of trans fats per serving in preparing its food.

NY1 FOLLOW-UP: Since barring trans fats, New York City has adopted several other anti-obesity measures including the requirement to post calories in fast food restaurants and the sugary drinks ban which could go into effect in early 2013.
