NY1 VIDEO: As NY1 News revisits its 20-year history, the station looks back at reporter Jeff Simmons' May 11, 2000 coverage of the announcement that Arcbishop Edward Egan - then the Bishop of Bridgeport - would be named as Cardinal O'Connor's successor.
NY1 FOLLOW-UP: The following year, Egan would be elevated to Cardinal. He would retire as Archbishop of the New York Archdiocese in 2009.
