NY1 VIDEO: In the early morning hours of March 16, 2000, undercover police shot and killed Patrick Dorismond, an unarmed Brooklyn security guard during a scuffle outside a bar on Manhattan's West Side. The tension between the African-American community and police boiled over during Dorismond's funeral in East Flatbush, Brooklyn on March 25, 2000, and NY1's Rebecca Spitz filed this report on that day.

NY1 FOLLOW-UP: On July 27, 2000, a grand jury decided not to indict Officer Anthony Vasquez in connection with Dorismond's death, calling the shooting accidental.
In 2003 the city settled a lawsuit with Dorismond's family for two point five million dollars.
