The Cutting Room, a much-loved live-performance venue in the Madison Square Park area is closing after a decade because its rent is tripling. The Cutting Room is owned by "Sex in the City" star Chris Noth and Steve Walter.

"Originally we opened up the cutting room of a leather factory but we kept it because there's a cutting room in film, cutting room in music, cutting room in fashion, it's ambiguous and cutting edge," said Walter.

Lala Brooks, the original lead singer for The Crystals will miss the space.

"I've worked here so many times and singing all my old hits, 'The Do Run Run', 'Benny Kiss Me' and it's just amazing, it's just like home and I'm gonna miss it. I can't imagine being without The Cutting Room, I really can't," said Brooks.

Many have performed at The Cutting Room. Where else could the National Air Guitar Championships be held but at The Cutting Room.

All of Joan Rivers' performances are for charity and many other charitable events have been held at the club. Eighties pop star Tiffany has also performed in the space.

Among the list of stars, Sting with Sam Moore, Alanis Morissette, James Blunt, Ronnie Spector, Chubby Checker and Jimmy Webb.

Joan Rivers will be doing a number of her charity gigs between now and January 13 when The Cutting Room goes dark.
