At a recent Manhattan conference, spa specialists have been offering their unique treatments at discount prices over the next few weeks. NY1's Valarie D'Elia filed the following report. Spas from near and far came together in Manhattan recently to show off their new trends and treatments at an International Spa Association gathering.
One of the biggest developments is the growth of 30-minute treatments.
"What this tells us is the consumer is very busy and cost-conscious. They still need their spa experience, but they're also doing it in smaller doses," says Lynn McNees of the International Spa Association.
They are also concentrating on specialized areas of the body.
“When you wear high heels, what happens is your Achilles [tendons] becomes shortened and [other] muscles become lengthened. So we do different stretches to balance that out," says Michael Ryan of Mohonk Mountain House.
The frequency of getting pampered is also increasing, so those who feel they need multiple treatments can easily join the club.
“You can join for $59 a month, which entitles you to one 50-minute massage a month. If you’d rather have a facial, you can trade up to a facial," says David Humphrey of Massage Envy Spas.
Mandarin Oriental New York is one of the luxury hotel chain’s five spas in the United States that are awarding a year’s worth of treatments to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. For more information, visit mandarinoriental.com/newyork.
The new Trump SoHo Hotel has a grand opening special through the end of September to introduce its hamam, a Middle Eastern bathing ritual.
“For anyone booking a full 60-minute treatment in terms of facial or massage, we will be offering a 30-minute, complimentary hamam treatment," says Leigh Smith of Trump SoHo.
Special programs are in, as a sleepy November weekend getaway in Lodge At Woodloch in the Poconos is more than just pillow talk.
“Everyone will learn how to remember their dreams and how to understand and derive wisdom from them," says Ginny Lopis of Lodge At Woodloch.
Now here’s a D’Elia’s Deal you don’t want to miss for $50 spa treatments at dozens of New York City spas from October 11-17. Visit www.spaweek.com for more information.
