NY1 highlights the coolest and newest apps for your cell phone or mobile device in the twice-weekly segment “App Wrap.” NY1’s Adam Balkin filed the following report.

While most apps are designed to help you on the move, some are designed to help you stop moving and just relax.

ARTREE

"ARTREE" is an app that is best described as a "tree generator." You decide the type, size, color and frequency of the flowers, leaves and limbs. Then choose a background color and a general type of tree you want, from straight and simple to wild and curly. Hit "start" and an algorithm creates a unique tree every time.

You can even just keep growing new trees using the same parameters. And if you happen to sprout one you think is particularly pretty, it's easy to save it or email it to someone.

"ARTREE" is available on the iPhone or iPod Touch for $1.99 or the iPad for $2.99.

Zen Brush

Though there are lots of apps out there that let you draw and paint with different types of brushes and textures, "Zen Brush" puts a virtual Asian ink brush in your hand, allowing even non-artistic types to write words or create drawings that have that ancient, "Far East" feel.

To change the overall feel of the project, you can also change your drawing surface to make it more modern, more colorful or more "traditional." You can also easily change the brush size. Images can also be easily saved or e-mailed.

"Zen Brush" is also an iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad app for $2.99.

Splode

"Splode" can brighten your day as it brightens your device. "Splodes" are little furry bubble looking things. You are armed with bean sprouts that can create little bursts of air currents that cause the Splodes to fly off and explode into a tiny ball of color and sound.

As the Splodes explodes, all nearby Splodes close enough to feel the aftershocks explode themselves, and so on and so forth. The goal is essentially to set off the biggest Splode-exploding chain reaction as possible in order to light the world around you and cause little flowers on the perimeter of the screen to bloom.

Splode is also an iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad app for $0.99.
