The Latin jazz community was awarded a victory Friday.

After dozens of categories were eliminated from the Grammys last year, the awards board of trustees reinstated the "Best Latin Jazz Album" category for the 2013 Grammy Awards.

The decision to eliminate the category in April of 2011 sparked protests and a lawsuit by a group of Latin jazz musicians.

Though the case was dismissed in April, the Latin jazz community got their award back.

Grammy-nominated Latin jazz musician Bobby Sanabria led the lawsuit and said he's relieved that the board reversed their decision.

"The category should never have been taken away in the first place because we met all the criteria in the seven years the category existed," he said. "We are very happy."

Other changes were made, including splitting up the best Latin pop, rock or urban award into two categories and condensing other categories into one award.
