NY1 highlights the coolest and newest apps for your cell phone or mobile device in the twice-weekly segment “App Wrap.” NY1’s Adam Balkin filed the following report. Star Trek Captain's Log
It's an app that you'll either think is epitome of cool or the epitome of geek. The "Star Trek Captain's Log" turns a iPhone into what appears to be a Star Trek Communicator. Users can make Captain's Log entries with either their voice, camera or text. Based on where the user is, the app uses GPS to place it on a map that users can then share it with others using the application or via the usual social networking suspects.
So basically, the app is kind of like Twitter for Trekkies. There are also some movie clips in there and a big interactive Starship Enterprise for users to twist, turn and inspect.
The "Star Trek Captain's Log" app, the latest among more than 50 "Star Trek"-themed iPhone apps out there already, is right now only available for the iPhone for $1.99.
Tron
The "Tron" app is a similar movie tie-in app that users will either find super geek or super chic. Based on the "Tron" remake coming out in December, the app offers trailers, info about the movie and an updated version of the classic "Tanks" game from the original arcade hit.
The "Tanks" game has 15 levels that can be played in single-player or multi-player mode.
Signing into the app also places users in "the grid," or an online community anxiously awaiting the arrival of the movie. Developers have already said they plan to offer much more capability as the movie premiere nears.
The "Tron" app is a free download which is now only available for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
