Nearly 550 restaurants in the city have opened in the last two years, creating more than 6,000 new jobs.
That's thanks to the New Business Acceleration Team, which was created in March 2010.
The City Council initiative allows restaurants to go through the city's permitting process faster so they can open more quickly.
The NBAT works with qualifying businesses to schedule and coordinate appointments and inspections from city agencies.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the program has generated $9 million in additional tax revenue and $50 million in sales revenue.
"Helping restaurants open their doors faster is also good for the entire city because the sooner we can get them to open, the sooner we'll not only have the jobs, we'll have a chance at great food," said Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
"This, in addition, I hope sends a message to small business owners, restaurant owners, and others that we in the government are here to actually here to help and support them, and make their lives easier during this tough economic time,” said City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
