Almost 200 students who took their SAT exams earlier this month in a Brooklyn private school were informed by email last night that their scores were invalidated due to a logistical problem at the test site.

The College Board informed the high school juniors who took their tests at Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn Heights on May 5 that their tests were never scored, due to an "administrative irregularity."

The group that administrates the SAT said a surprise inspection of the test site found that the test takers were seated too closely together.

Several dozen students who attend Packer and students from several other Brooklyn schools are now forced to retake the tests on Saturday.

"It's incredibly frustrating. Everyone's been really, really upset by this. It's an emotional thing. People have been preparing for this months," said one student. "I had this date on my calendar, I was ready for it, I came in and I felt good about it, and now I felt like I've gotten past that, past the SATs, I felt like I was moving along. And now I have no extra time, it's an almost six-hour test for me that I have to redo this weekend with four days' notice."

"Everybody's just really angry. The worst part about is there's nothing you can do. There's no one you can even make a complaint to or call and people at the College Board who you can go to," said a second student. "They either tell you that there's nothing they can do about it or they pretty much don't care."

"Everybody was mad, people were busting into tears. It's a very stressful part of our lives right now," said a third student. "We're juniors in high school, we're looking at colleges, we just pretty much want to do well in this one test. Everybody felt good about it too like I did and we find out it's taken over."

The College Board said the Brooklyn school was the only site worldwide this testing round where scores were cancelled, and that such cancellations only take place two or three times a year.

In a statement, Packer officials accepted full responsibility for the test-taking mistake and said they apologized to the affected students, but they also expressed frustration that the College Board did not alert the school before the tests were invalidated.

Juniors are also taking Advanced Placement exams this week.
