Some city principals are cashing in on their school's success.

The Department of Education paid out about $6 million in union-contracted bonuses this year.

Administrators at 275 schools were awarded money based on school progress reports, receiving between $7,000 and $25,000.

A similar program rewarding teachers was phased out last year, after research found it did not have any effect on teacher or student performance.
