WESTFIELD, NEW YORK - Police are investigating the death of a New York City orchestra violinist.

Federal authorities in Westfield, New York say Mary Whitaker was fatally shot at her summer home on Wednesday morning.

Police believe Whitaker was shot during an attempted robbery by 43-year-old Jonathan Conklin and 30-year-old Charles Sanford.

Afterwards, police say the men stole her car and drove it to Erie, Pennsylvania, where they were tracked down by the FBI.

Now, both men are facing charges for stealing property and taking it across state lines, as well as carjacking.

A grand jury will also consider murder charges.

Whitaker, who is from Manhattan, performed with the Westchester Philharmonic and spent summers with the Chautauqua Symphony orchestra. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
