A Times Square Spiderman broke character and allegedly punched a police officer in the face Saturday.

Twenty-five-year-old Junior Bishop from Brooklyn is now facing several charges including resisting arrest and assaulting an officer.

According to police, Bishop was on 42nd Street when he demanded more money from a woman trying to give him a dollar around 2 p.m. Saturday.

An officer intervened, telling the woman she could "donate" whatever she wanted.

Police say Bishop then started cursing at the officer and told him to mind his own business.

The NYPD says the officer then attempted to arrest Bishop, who allegedly resisted arrest and punched the officer in the face.

The officer was treated for swelling around the eye and a cut to the face.

Visitors to Times Square had very strong opinions on the subject, both positive and negative.

"I was excited to look at him. He looks so real! Just like real Batman, and my son, yeah, he loves him a lot. Yeah, he loves all Batman movies," one visitor said.

"It's infringement. They're not getting the proper licensing to do it, so it's almost like, uh, black market of being able to go and have them on the street and do that. And the companies who created the characters are not getting the right funding for that, so..." another visitor said.

The Times Square Alliance, which represents businesses in the area, says some of the costumed characters have become a problem and are calling for them to be licensed. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
