Police are investigating the death of a 3-year-old boy who apparently drowned at a day care center on Staten Island.
Investigators say Edward Harris somehow got through a fence, and ended up inside an above-ground pool behind the Mother Byrd Group Family Daycare around 5:40 p.m. Thursday.
He was pulled out of the water by someone at the scene, when cops arrived they found him unconscious, and unresponsive.
The boy was rushed to a local hospital, and pronounced dead.
Police say his mother works at the day care center.
It's unclear why the boy was alone and no arrests have been made.
Neighbors we spoke with are shocked by this incident.
"It's tragic. I mean for one, for one. I bet you she might have turned her back for one second and maybe I don't know," one man said.
"Just to see any little baby—my God, I don't even know what to say. It's so horrible—the mother—I would never want to be in her shoes. Why weren't they protected? Why?" another neighbor said.
The Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of death.
