Harlem native and children's author Walter Dean Myers has died.

Myers wrote more than 100 books starting with "Where Does the Day Go" in 1969.

His newest novel, "On a Clear Day," is scheduled to come out in September.

He was nominated for the National Book Award three times and received five Coretta Scott King Awards for African American fiction.

His publisher says Myers died yesterday in Manhattan after a brief illness.

Walter Dean Myers was 76 years old.
