Sen. Charles Schumer is making a push to protect children from being poisoned by electronic cigarettes.
Schumer wants the federal government to require child-proof caps and prominent warning labels on vials of e-cigarette liquid.
The liquids come in a variety of flavors, ranging from bubble gum to chocolate and gummy bear, which children can mistake for candy.
Numbers from the Centers for Disease Control show that e-cigarette poison control calls are up from one per month in 2010 to 200 per month this year.
More than half of those cases involved children under the age of 5.
