Newly appointed Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro presided over his first promotion ceremony Monday, in the EMS division.
Nigro welcomed three new Deputy Chiefs and five new Captains to the Department's EMS ranks.
He also promoted the first woman executive officer in the history of the EMS division.
"My goal is not to set a precedent. My goal was to help the commissioner. I was about to retire. He asked me not to and I thought this was a great opportunity to help him move forward with the department," said newly promoted EMS Executive Officer Elizabeth Cascio.
"An executive officer is someone that the commissioner can trust, someone who is competent and knows all the facets of the job," said Commissioner Nigro.
"It's early in his tenure, but he's an intelligent guy. He's a well-rounded guy within the department. He's going to continue to make great decisions," said newly promoted EMS Deputy Chief Richard Chattarton.
The newly promoted officers represent over 170 years of experience with the Department.
They will be assigned to units throughout the city.
