Police are searching for the driver who hit a man and then fled the scene in East New York early Sunday morning. NY1's Michael Herzenberg filed the following report.
Sarah Sedillo was walking home from a store just before one o'clock Sunday morning when she saw a car swerve into a man crossing Linden Boulevard.
"He just swerved out of nowhere and I just saw him run over the guy and the guy just flew and like fell on the sidewalk," Sedillo said.
She says the driver of a 2003 Chevy Impala sat in the car.
Police say it happened near Drew Street and the driver eventually ran away leaving the car behind.
"I mean it's crazy, like nowadays everyone's just like, they don't have no common sense," said one resident.
First responders transported the 59-year-old victim to Brookdale Hospital with critical injuries.
Neighbors in East New York say they're angry and worried.
"People are so horrible. New York City, it's getting hard to live here. People they just have no respect for life. None at all, none," said one resident.
Police have not released any information about who the mystery driver might be, but if caught he could face felony charges.
