Fifth Avenue was pulsing with pride Sunday for the annual National Puerto Rican Day parade.

About a million people were decked out in red, white and blue to celebrate Puerto Rican culture and heritage.

The parade always attracts many city and state politicians, with Mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo taking part Sunday, as well as City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, who's one of the Grand Marshals this year.

"This is a wonderful day. We're all united, one voice. This is the diversity of the Puerto Rican community. We have contributed historically to New York City and beyond and so it's a great day. This is a demonstration that culture lives on across the generations," Mark-Viverito said.

"The Puerto Rican Day parade has a great energy to it. The Puerto Rican community is a big part of this city and it always has been. They're alive and they're growing and they love New York and New York loves them," said Cuomo.

The parade route took marchers from 44th Street in Midtown to 79th Street on the Upper East side.

There were also some changes this year. Three board members were forced to resign earlier this year after an investigation by the state attorney general showed bad management. A new board was put in place just months ago.

"There was a lot of controversy coming in today but as we say the past is the past you learn from the past you move forward," said National Puerto Rican Day Parade President Lorraine Cortes-Vasquez.

This year's theme was "One nation, many voices."
