The anxiously awaited "Thunderbolt" roller coaster will not be up and running for Memorial Day weekend.
Its opening is being delayed until May 31.
Owners say they're still awaiting the necessary permits needed to operate the ride.
They say the rough winter and wet spring slowed down construction.
"Unfortunately, the winter was very, very harsh. We started very late because the concrete was so icy that we couldn't escalate it," said Valerio Zamperla, president of Zamperla USA. "Ant then April was extremely wet. And so with these two being backed up, we were only able to open one week late, I'm think I'm pretty happy with that."
The $9 million ride is the first custom-built roller coaster in Coney Island since 1927.
