A 9-year-old girl is in stable condition after getting hit by a police car late Sunday night in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn.
Police said the cruiser was going through a green light at the corner of New Lots Avenue and Mother Gaston Boulevard when the girl ran out into the intersection and was hit.
Officials said the car wasn't speeding at the time of the accident, but a witness disputed that claim.
"The cop was speeding around the corner. He was only the one person in the car, everything. Flew, hit the girl. She flew up in the air, fell on the floor," the witness said. "She had a big knot on her head, blood leaking from her mouth. The side of her stomach, I think it's on the side of her kidney, it was swollen, everything like that. I laid in the street with her and I kept talking to her to make sure that she stayed coherent."
Police said the girl didn't appear to be with an adult at the time.
