Reconstruction on the Bayonne Bridge is back underway.

The Port Authority is looking to raise the bridge by 65 feet and install new 50-foot channels to allow clearance for the world's largest freight ships.

The project is worth more than $1 billion and is expected to bring hundreds of thousands of jobs and billions in economic activity to the region.

Construction is expected to be finished by 2016, and is designed to coincide with another major project: the opening of new locks on the Panama Canal.
