A section of the West Side Highway was closed for much of the day Wednesday because of falling ice.

Traffic backed up when police closed the highway between Murray Street and Albany Street in both directions.

Police say it was a precaution because of ice falling from the World Trade Center.

It's been a common problem this winter.

The Port Authority built a protective shed at the site to protect riders trying to get to the PATH train.
