The city fire department says none of the street side alarm call boxes in Manhattan are working.

The FDNY emphasizes that 911 is still working fine and residents should use a phone in case of an emergency.

The street side alarm boxes are out because of an infrastructure problem.

Last year, the fire commissioner told NY1 that only about two percent of calls citywide come from those boxes, 96 percent of which were false alarms.

The FDNY says Verizon is working on a fix.

Residents who are deaf or hearing impaired should use the "911 Tapping Protocol" from a land line.
