Police in Manhattan say a person is now in custody in connection with the rape of a woman early Monday morning.
Investigators say the 22-year-old victim woman was walking into her apartment on East Seventh Street around 3:30 a.m. when the suspect pushed her inside and attacked her.
She was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Residents who spoke with NY1 admit there are some safety concerns in the area.
"This historically is not a great neighborhood, so I guess there is still some of that happening," said one resident.
"You know it happens, I mean unusual, not really. You know you're a block from Tompkins Square Park, and it can happen anywhere you have to be careful," said another resident.
Further details were not immediately available.
