New York metro area airports ranked the worst in the nation when it comes to delays this past week.

According to an analysis by the group Global Gateway Alliance, there were more than 5,100 delays at the three major airports.

And when it came to cancellations, the area ranked second behind Chicago, with more than 2,000 grounded flights due to the snow and cold.

Passenger advocates are calling on the airline industry to make some changes.

They would like to see more customer service agents on the job in bad weather to handle the increased number of customer calls.

They also suggested airports invest in new deicing technology and modernize some terminals to better meet the needs of stranded passengers.
