Police are searching for a man who they say may have been involved in the city's first murder of 2014.

They released the above photo of their suspect, 26-year-old Sheldon Smith.

Police say he's responsible for the death of 22-year-old Julio Mora, who was killed about an hour into the new year.

Officers found Mora dead inside a house in South Jamaica.

Sources say police initially thought he had been stabbed in the chest several times, but a medical examiner determined that he actually died from a gunshot wound.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
