A 3-year-old girl is recovering after she was attacked by a pit bull in Queens.

Police say the girl was shopping with her mom at a Pathmark in Springfield Gardens when the dog bit her on the lip.

Police say the dog was not on a leash and had no collar, and they say they couldn't find the owner.

"The child was bleeding everywhere," said Belinda Barnett-Andrea, a witness. "The mother was distraught. It was a parent's worst nightmare. Me being a mother myself, I cannot imagine what this mother was going through then or now."

Fire officials say that the girl was taken to Long Island Jewish hospital with injuries to her head and leg.

The pit bull was taken to a shelter. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
